The Biodiversity Research Group, led by Professor Salit Kark at The University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia, is a dynamic team with a strong focus on conservation science, biodiversity and human-wildlife interactions. Our group addresses a wide range of environmental and ecological issues, collaborating with partners around the world across terrestrial, coastal, and marine ecosystems.

Working at scales from regional to global, we strive to tackle key environmental questions and challenges related to sustainability and conservation. We are committed to mentoring and training the next generation of conservation scientists and practitioners, and we work closely with local communities and international partners to promote conservation efforts that support both biodiversity and livelihoods.
Our research spans multiple spatial scales—from global and continental to regional and local. We combine large-scale and big data analyses, spatial modelling, and fieldwork to investigate key ecological, environmental, and conservation questions. Our work supports science-based decision-making in biodiversity conservation.
Opportunities
We offer opportunities for postdoctoral researchers, PhDs, Masters and Honours students to join our team, as well as volunteers. Our current projects span a wide range of exciting topics, involving both hands-on fieldwork and large-scale spatial data analysis using GIS. We work across terrestrial, coastal and marine ecosystems, contributing to global biodiversity research and conservation.
